Do you know what is in your water? Chances are the tap water you drink contains fluoride, which helps prevent tooth decay. For over 60 years, fluoride has been being added to city and municipal water sources. As of 2002, the CDC (Center for Diseases Control) estimates that over 60% of the U.S. population receives fluoridated water in their homes http://bit.ly/7AF01N.
The addition of fluoride to our water is touted as being one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century http://bit.ly/7jmjPF. We may not think of preventing cavities when we are drinking our glass of water, or cooking our food, but the addition of fluoride has reduced tooth decay in children 40-70%. That is a HUGE achievement especially since tooth decay is being prevented regardless of the access to care and/or socioeconomic status.
“Community water fluoridation is still the single most effective means of combating tooth decay,” said Dr. Stanislav. “While dental caries remains one of the most prevalent of childhood diseases, it can and does affect people of all ages.” http://bit.ly/7jmjPF
So, how does fluoride prevent tooth decay? It prevents the acid produced by bacteria in plaque from dissolving the tooth enamel on your teeth. Fluoride also helps damaged teeth repair themselves. http://bit.ly/7AF01N It is highly recommended that children brush with toothpaste with fluoride in it, in addition to having fluoride tap water. If your tap water does not have fluoride already in it, then your child’s dentist may suggest suppliments or other fluoride products.
Promoting fluoridation is poor policy. You are ignoring systemic effects: thinning bones, thyroid dysfunction and IQ reduction. Adhering to the ADA and CDC’s propaganda marks you as another dentist who bought the farm and is not to be trusted. Self-education is advised; please review fluoridealert.org. Join the 21st century.
Thanks for your time,

Over 2,700 professionals urge the US Congress to stop water fluoridation until Congressional hearings are conducted, citing scientific evidence that fluoridation, long promoted to fight tooth decay, is ineffective and has serious health risks. See statement:http://www.fluorideaction.org/statement.august.2007.html.
Also, eleven Environmental Protection Agency employee unions representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals called for a moratorium on drinking water fluoridation programs across the country, and have asked EPA management to recognize fluoride as posing a serious risk of causing cancer in people.
Approximately, 80 US communities rejected fluoridation in 2008 & 2009
